Last week, I discovered that my daughter had outgrown her shoes again and would need another two pairs of shoes (one pair for outdoor wear and one pair for indoor at school). I found myself, again, moaning about how much I spend for shoes on my two little people – when all of a sudden, it occurred to me that low income individuals and families also face pressing shoe needs but may not be able to afford them. I was also quite confident that shoes are not common donation items to our clothing banks in Toronto.
That became the seed of a little idea, a shoe drive. This idea became more and more real throughout the day as I spoke to friends and colleagues about it, all of whom thought it was a real need. It was further confirmed when I contacted a not-for-profit, called New Circles Community Services, who emphasized that shoes are a pressing need for them. You can read more about New Circles Community Services here.
So here we have it. I am hosting a shoe drive! Please see below graphic for more information as to drop off times and locations. I hope you will join me by donating your gently used or new shoes (or a donation) to this cause.
